I See the Light | C.J. & S. Perales
I always loved the way the afternoon light came through our back yard and into our kitchen. It was the first thing I noticed (aside from the cat smell) when I first visited this duplex. That light was its saving grace, because two bedrooms split between an almost 2-year-old, a soon-to-be newborn, and a multitalented husband and wife duo just wasn’t what I was looking for. Not to mention the area was nothing to rave about. Truly our family should be in a 4-bedroom home, or at least a 2-bed with some solution of an art studio, music studio, and wood shop, but no. We live in a pricy area and this is the renter who accepted us, so here we are.
For the last 3 years, that afternoon light dancing between the trees in the backyard has been my daily reminder of hope (at least on the days that the marina layer hasn’t drowned it out). When I sit at our kitchen table or look out while doing the dishes, and study the way the light shines through the leaves, I don’t feel how we’re living on top of each other. I don’t see the piles of stuff to be organized and Tetris-ed into place. When I see the light, I see hope. I remember that there’s more outside these walls, and have this sense that what is going on within these walls is growth. Like a snug cocoon, this house has snuggled us tight, refined us, given us the discomfort needed to grow. And we have been growing. And I do believe that we’ve taken a bite out of this cocoon wall, and the afternoon light is spilling in.
Or is is it dawn’s light?
Regardless, we see it, you and I. We see hope for a new day, a new season, a new home.
God bless your current season, and bless your adventures.
OH! And that second baby? Caitie Jo? Yeah she came just over two months after we moved in, and then proceeded to start this canvas with me 2.5 years after that! 0.1% of this sale (and any other painting with C.J. in the signature) will go to her investment account.
