Commissions
It is an honor to welcome you, the beautiful human being that you are, the one with a future filled with hope, into my studio to collaborate on a unique piece of art for your home. Below is an outline of what you can expect if you so chose to embark on this journey with me.
VISION SETTING MEETING
I love a good cup of coffee and would love to treat you to one in Monterey, CA while hearing your vision and getting to know each other. I am, however, a wife and mama first, and this tends to intrude on coffee dates, along with the fact that you may very well live on the other side of the country. Don’t worry though! Plan B: I DoorDash the best coffee in your area (or some other fave treat of yours) to your door and we settle down for a nice FaceTime/Zoom call.
During our meeting I’ll be asking about the following:
The reason/inspiration for your painting(s).
Core subject(s)/symbolism, and colors. (References welcomed but not needed.)
Preferred measurements. (Either exact or rough, but 18” x 24” / 432 sq. in. is my minimum.)
Panoramic images of the room(s) that your painting(s) will most likely go in. Please bring a set of images lit only with sunlight, as well as a set lit with your light fixtures on. (This helps me to get a better sense of color.)
Ideal days & times for real-time communication on the project, and a way for me to send communications when I’d like to pass something along without disturbing, for instance, your sleep at 2AM.
When you’re ready to move forward from here, I’ll send an agreement to sign, and we will begin our MISE EN PLACE.
MISE EN PLACE
Mise en place, if you are unfamiliar, is a French cooking term for getting you “things in place.” Our mise en place is our references and materials! I’ll provide a rough paper sketch to confirm the composition and subject matter, and, if you hadn’t already provided one, I will source or create a couple color pallets for you to choose from. The entire MISE EN PLACE can take 1 day to 2 weeks depending on you, I, us, and the supply chain.
PAINTING
Equally terrifying and exhilarating. Are you ready to see the dream unfold?! You can choose how involved you’d like to be. Would you like to get a photo of every layer I put down, whether you have input or not? Or I can take it to about 80% completion before you step in to guide the landing, or you can channel your inner child and wait to unwrap your completed gift on your birthday/Christmas/Tuesday! The painting process can take from 2 weeks to 1 month if the communication in the prior steps was effective, and longer if plans change.
PRICING & HAPPINESS GUARANTEE
I charge $2/sq. in. for commissions that go according to plan, and provide a Happiness Guarantee. The Happiness Guarantee is that you will be happy with your painting. If you are not, I will fix it.
